Overview

Austin Vita are delighted to be supporting a medical device business doing fantastic work in the cancer diagnostics space who are investing in digital pathology and are looking to recruit an Applications Software Engineer to join their expanding team.

You will be involved in supporting and implementing application development and integration of patches from support collaborators. Applications specialize in high speed digital imaging techniques and the user interfaces for scanning instruments, production test software and investigative analysis. The scanner is a new investment and expansion of the companies portfolio of equipment for pathology laboratories so it is an exciting time to come on board.

Medical device development is an advantage but they are also open to cross-training from other highly regulated industries.

The software is developed in C# and C++ and utilises modern software development processes. There is a minimum of 40% documentation activity within a regulated (BSEN62304) life cycle.

This is a Hybrid opportunity with occasional site visits

Essential Job Functions/Skills:

  • Excellent C#

  • XAML

  • .Net Framework, Windows Service Applications

  • C++

  • Unit and system test in regulated industries.

  • Experience in reverse engineering code into articulate requirements and design details.

  • Full software development life-cycle.

Desirable Job Functions/Skills:

  • Image capture and processing

  • Networking and data storage

  • Chromium Embedded Framework

  • Knowledge of BS EN 62304, ISO 13485, ISO 14971

  • Software development experience within the Medical Device sector (or similar highly regulated environment).

Qualifications/Skills:

  • Bachelors degree or equivalent in an engineering or computer science discipline preferred.

    Our client is an innovative Medical Device company who are looking to expand the Team with a Senior Product Engineer who will play a leading role within the Engineering Group in relation to product development, focusing primarily on the development and release of the system, but also helping with electronics/mechanical design aspects.

    Responsibilities:

    - Be Subject Matter Expert in product design from concept and prototyping through to Design for Manufacturing (DFM).
    - Act as technical lead on product compliance approvals as well as hardware verification and validation activities
    - Provide investigation and root-cause analysis services for hardware-related technical issues.
    - Support the Software Engineers on existing and future product development activities.
    - Providing technical support for all hardware related matters between business divisions, key suppliers and development partners.

    - Steer whole product lifecycle hardware maintenance and improvement, share experience and knowledge with colleagues as required
    - Support as required manufacturing activities and technical service function
    - Prepare hardware for external studies and trials and ongoing hardware support
    - Produce work instructions, operating procedures and technical documentation for required purpose

    Skills:

    - 5+ years’ experience in end to end product design: from concept to manufacturing
    - Expertise in achieving IVD or medical product compliance for European and USA market.
    - Able to create robust, high-level product design that will optimise usability, manufacturability, reliability and COGS for commercial realisation.
    - The ability to manage multiple strands of diverse activity simultaneously.
    - Self-directed technical project management with minimal supervision

    Nice to haves:

    - Electronic design for FCC, EMC, CE, UKCA and CB Scheme compliance
    - Experience within Design, assembly and debugging of microprocessor-controlled electronic circuits and embedded software environments
    - Experience in optoelectronics, PID temperature control and related circuitry design
    - Knowledge of reliability testing techniques
    - Experience of working in a small company
    - Managing test protocols, test studies scope and multiple external test houses.
    - Use of Altium or other schematic capture package

    Qualifications

    - Degree in Electronic Engineering or similar
