Our client, based in Cambridge, has a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Mechanical Engineer who is interested in innovating new medical devices from concept through design, V&V, to ready for clinical trial products.

Duties:

  • Development of new medical device products, from early-stage product concepts to ready for clinical trial devices.

  • Lead, Plan and execute project work-streams or small projects, using agreed project protocols, to deliver emerging technology from specification.

  • Management of the technical activities on a product development programme, including directing the technical design work and liaising with the Project Manager.

  • Line Management of Apprentice, Graduate and Level I colleagues to support their personal development.

  • Utilise project knowledge and proficient engineering knowledge to draft (client) technical reports and design documentation for review.

  • Provide appropriate proficient mechanical engineering, product design and process knowledge to support activities and business decision making within a speciality area.

  • Procure prototype parts using appropriate manufacturing techniques, such as rapid prototyping and machining.

  • Oversee and carry out diligent laboratory testing, including creation of test protocols, designing, and procuring test apparatus, analysis of results and report writing.

  • Oversee and develop mathematical models of system or component parts to understand the operation of new medical device products.

  • Oversee and carry out technical analysis of mechanical systems, such as tolerance analysis, Failure Mode and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Design for Manufacturing and Assembly (DFMA) assessments.
